Everyday, each child that enters the classroom has a morning routine - they put their belongings away, wash their hands and then answer the “Question of the Day”. The question of the day usually lines up with the theme of the current unit the class is learning about, but there can also be random check-in’s such as “Did you have a good morning today?” (Answer Yes/No) where the child would just answer by submitting their name under the appropriate answer.
To collect class data and to review it and observe the trend of graphs that can be made is a great way to introduce the attitude of scribing into a Kindergarten classroom. As the students become more accustomed to the routine, I would incorporate an afternoon activity of Daily Journaling where students will be able to record their daily answers to the question of the day and elaborate with more words or pictures as they please. At the end of the week, students can display their favorite journal entry of the week to share with the rest of their class, inciting motivation to complete the assignment with depth, detail, and creativity to impress their peers.
The app that I would use for the students to record their data for their Daily Journal would be SeeSaw. SeeSaw is an app that I saw was used for our returning Kindergarten students during the virtual section of the school year for public school systems. These Kindergarten students used our space (because they also had siblings in our preschool classroom) and stay connected with their own class through their devices (usually iPads). As a teacher, my co-teacher and I always ended up helping them through some technical difficulties that they sometimes came across, but I found that SeeSaw was a very easy and multi-functional app that would be perfect for integrating quality technology into the classroom.
My goal for the class would be for a daily submission of their answers to the question of the day that would be posted to the entire class feed. Students could submit their answers with pictures, a compilation of photos, words/sentences, voice recording, video recording, etc. The purpose would be for the students to start compiling data and be able to look back on their work as well as other students’ work, review it, refine it, and improve their future work. Students would be encouraged to explore the different tools available to create multi-media posts and also be inspired by other ideas that their peers may use.
The free app is designed to be easily navigated and accessible to not just teachers/students and schools, but also parents!
The teacher could submit an assignment straight into the classroom dashboard - such as the question of the day.

Students would be given the flexibility and open-ended opportunity of using a variety of formats to create their journal entry to answer the question of the day.
Once the student has posted on SeeSaw, I would approve the post that they think is their best work (students can “like” the work that they approve) which would then be shared to the rest of the class.
Some difficulties that may arise from using the app might be caused by the flexibility of using multimedia functions. For example, some students may enjoy exploring the different options and modes they can submit their answers, while others may have difficulty choosing and extending from their comfort zone and using new tools. Having a variety of media to use to submit their answers allow for all students to be able to fully express themselves in the way they want. The
